As music therapists, we often find ourselves networking with most staff members and with numerous groups and individuals within our facilities. This unique work culture sometimes results in challenging or inappropriate comments or advances from others. In this AMTA-Pro podcast, music therapist Kory Antonacci discusses different types of sexual harassment and provides specific guidelines and resources for music therapy professionals, interns, and students to utilize when responding to, reporting, and taking steps to prevent sexual harassment. We can use these tools to create a safe workplace culture for all involved.

The U.S. Equal Opportunity Employment Commission (EEOC) defines workplace sexual harassment as “unwelcome sexual advances or conduct of a sexual nature which unreasonably interferes with the performance of a person’s job or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment.”
This podcast is designed to allow music therapy professionals, interns, and students to further explore their experiences (or the experiences of others) involving sexual harassment in the work environment, and for listeners to gain the resources and tools necessary to create and support a safe workplace culture for all.
1. Identify types of sexual harassment and ways in which sexual harassment manifests in the work environment.
2. Locate and study your company’s policy related to sexual harassment.
3. Learn the steps for reporting sexual harassment in your daily work.
4. Identify ways to prevent sexual harassment.
5. Participate in leadership training related to legal, behavioral, and procedural harassment responsiveness.

About the AMTA-Pro Podcast Speaker
Kory Antonacci, M.S.Ed., LPC, MT-BC is a board certified music therapist and licensed professional counselor in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She holds the NICU-MT certification from the National Institute for Infant & Child Medical Music Therapy. Kory has been a board certified music therapist for 9 years, specializing in the treatment of children with medical complexities, developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, and chronic illness. She serves as the Creative and Expressive Arts Therapies Program Coordinator at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. At Children’s Hospital, she is the primary investigator for an IRB research study in the NICU.
